Fog Cannon for Farm Dust Control and Area Disinfection

There are three kinds of fog cannon on the market, and two of them are not ours. Security fog cannons fill a shop with dense mist to stop a robbery. Stage cannons make fog for a film set. Neither moves water at 20 to 60 litres a minute across a farm yard.

Ours does one thing: it throws a fine mist 30 to 80 metres so the dust settles and the smell drops. If you are turning a pad of water into airborne droplets, this is the machine.

If you are here for odour around a manure store, start with the coverage section. If you are here for dust on a haul road, the same machine applies — read the range table first.

Throw Range, Nozzle Count and Flow Specifications

The series is specified as ranges rather than a single model, because the right unit depends on how far you need the mist to travel.

ParameterRange
Throw distance30–80 m
Nozzles6–32
Water flow20–60 L/min
SupplyAC380V / AC220V, 50 Hz
Portable optionBattery pack available

The three figures move together. More nozzles at the same pressure give a wider, wetter plume; fewer nozzles with higher pump pressure give a longer, finer throw. That is why a 30 m unit and an 80 m unit are not the same machine with a different label — they are different pump and nozzle combinations.

Range is measured in still air. Wind, humidity and air temperature all change where the mist actually lands. On an exposed yard, plan on the shorter end of the range you bought, and site the unit upwind.

Two related terms are worth separating. A dust cannon is the same class of machine aimed at particulate suppression on haul roads, stockpiles and yards. A mist cannon is often the same hardware tuned for finer droplets over a shorter distance. We supply all three descriptions because buyers search all three, but the decision is still made on range and flow.

Mounting Options and Automation Levels

Supply and water connection: the unit runs on AC380V or AC220V single supply depending on configuration, and a battery pack is available for positions without mains power. Water inlet requirements are [待补:进水压力与口径要求|责任方:工厂].

One practical point that does not need a factory confirmation: a fog cannon is a fixed asset with a water line. Whichever mounting you choose, the water supply has to reach it and drain away from it. On a yard with no drainage, that is a civil decision before it is an equipment decision.

Coverage Planning for Farm Yards and Roads

Nobody can tell you the number of units from a floor plan alone, but the arithmetic is simple enough to do honestly.

One unit covers a circle of radius equal to its throw distance. An 80 m unit covers a circle of about 20,000 m² on paper. In practice the effective footprint is smaller — call it 40 to 60 per cent of that circle, because the mist thins at the edge, the wind pushes it, and obstacles block it. Treat that coefficient as an estimate, not a guarantee: 按参数推算,待实测.

For a farm yard, three positions do most of the work:

  • Along the access road, upwind of the vehicle route, so arriving and leaving trucks pass through the plume.
  • At the loading and unloading area, where dust is generated rather than where it settles.
  • Between sheds and over the manure store, which is where odour originates rather than where it is noticed.

Where one unit cannot cover the full footprint, two units run in sequence with overlapping plumes are more effective than one oversized unit aimed across the whole site — spray loses momentum long before it loses height.

The same machine covers engineering and municipal dust suppression as well as farm yards. Haul roads, stockpiles and demolition fronts are the same problem with different dust, and the units are the same. If your project is a construction site rather than a farm, the coverage arithmetic above still applies.

Stainless Steel Build and Pump Protection

What the range data does tell you is the duty the pump is under. Delivering 60 L/min through 32 nozzles at working pressure is a continuous load, and pump protection is what separates a unit that lasts three seasons from one that lasts one.

The maintenance argument is the one to weigh: a fog cannon sits outdoors, draws untreated water, and runs unattended. Ask for the wear parts list before you buy, not after.

Shipping: a fog cannon is a bulky item rather than a heavy one — the barrel and the frame dominate the packed volume. [待补:包装方式、体积与重量|责任方:工厂] If you are ordering several units for one site, ask for a loading plan before the container is booked.

Farm Yard Dust and Odour Control Installations

This section stays empty until we have filed installations we can actually describe. A stock photograph of a cannon on a gravel road proves nothing about whether it worked on a pig farm.

Matching Low-Pressure Disinfection and Wash Systems

A fog cannon is not a disinfection system, and treating the two as interchangeable is the most common planning mistake on a biosecurity site.

What it doesFog cannonLine disinfection system
ActionSpace spray — droplets through the airPiped delivery to fixed nozzles
CoverageWhat the plume reachesWhat the pipe network reaches
TimingManual or scheduled startZoned and time-slotted
Best forDust, odour, ambient airSurfaces, equipment, defined zones

If you need to disinfect shed interiors on a schedule, across zones, with a record of when it ran, that is a low-pressure disinfection system with a piped network — a different product with different control logic.

What the fog cannon does well is the part a pipe network cannot reach: the air over a yard, the dust coming off a truck, the smell over a manure store.

Related equipment sits at two other points on the same site: a vehicle wash system at the gate, where trucks arrive, and a mobile high-pressure washer where a fixed line cannot reach.

Fog Cannon FAQ

How much water does it use per hour? Between 20 and 60 L/min depending on the unit and nozzle set — so 1.2 to 3.6 m³ per hour of continuous running. 按参数推算,待实测: real consumption depends on how long the unit actually runs, not on how long it is switched on.

Will it freeze in winter? [待补:防冻措施与低温使用限制|责任方:工厂] This matters more than most buyers expect, because a cannon left charged over a frost cracks a pump body.

How much odour does it actually remove? We do not publish an odour reduction percentage, because we have not measured one. [待补:除臭效果数据或第三方检测|责任方:工厂] What we can say is that it disperses odour at source rather than masking it downstream.

Can I use it for disinfection? The unit sprays liquid into the air, and the brochure lists farm disinfection among its applications. Whether a given disinfectant is approved for space spraying in your market is a compliance question for your veterinarian or regulator — [待补:喷雾消毒的合规适用范围|责任方:工厂/当地法规].

How many units do I need? Work backwards from the footprint and the throw range, using the effective-coverage estimate in the section above. If you send us a site drawing with dimensions we will size it for you.

What do you need to quote? Site area and shape, whether the job is dust or odour or disinfection, what power and water are available at the position, and whether it needs to start automatically. With those four we can name a unit and a position.

Fogging Coverage, Water Quality and Odour Planning

Placement beats power. A smaller cannon sited upwind at the source of the dust will outperform a larger one aimed across the yard from downwind. Start with where the problem is generated, not where it is noticed.

Water quality matters more than it looks. These units draw a lot of water through small nozzles. Suspended solids block them, hardness scales them, and both show up as a plume that narrows over a season rather than as a sudden failure. [待补:水质要求与前置过滤建议|责任方:工厂]

Odour is a dosing problem before it is a spraying problem. A cannon disperses; it does not neutralise. Where odour is heavy, the plan usually needs a source treatment — covering, drainage, or chemical dosing at the manure store — with the cannon handling the residual plume rather than carrying the whole job.

A note on expectations. Fog cannons are sold with impressive photographs of dust clouds collapsing. The photographs are real; the numbers behind them rarely are. Ask any supplier what the reduction was measured on, and treat “up to 90%” with the same caution you would apply to any figure without a test method attached.

Request a Fog Cannon Quote

Six things let us name a unit instead of a range:

  1. Site area and shape — a drawing or dimensions, not only the total square metres
  2. The job — dust, odour, or disinfection, and which of the three matters most
  3. Where the problem starts — the road, the loading bay, or the manure store
  4. Power available at the position — AC380V, AC220V, or none (battery option)
  5. Water available at the position — source, pressure and flow
  6. Whether it needs to start on its own — manual, scheduled, or linked to another system

Send those through the form and you will get back a unit, a mounting, and a suggested position — not a catalogue. If your site has two different problems in two different places, say so; it is usually cheaper to solve them as one plan than as two purchases.
